Say “strength training” and most people picture a gym, a barbell, and someone chasing a personal best. Functional strength is a different idea — and it matters a lot more often than a personal record does.

The best-documented way to guard against that combines two things: regular walking and resistance training — together, not either on its own.
Muscle also depends on more than training alone.
